Puyol acts as if he's about to make his debut

The Blaugrana trainer has voiced his admiration for the defender's positive attitude, while also making it clear that they will not make any signings in January

Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino has hailed Carles Puyol's enthusiasm ahead of this weekend's Liga match away to Osasuna.

The experienced defender has made the match squad for the first time this season after recovering from a knee injury and Martino is impressed with the 35-year-old's exemplary attitude.

"Puyol's enthusiasm surprises me. He acts as if he's about to make his debut," the Argentine coach said at a press conference. "Seeing him has gotten me all excited too.

"Carles' return is a great joy for the team and even more for him. He couldn't wait to get back."

Martino then went on to reiterate that Barcelona do not plan to make any signings in the winter transfer window.

"We intend to start and finish the season with the same group of players," he insisted.

"Jonathan dos Santos? I have talked with him and he has decided to stay."

The Barca coach also had his say on the absence of Gerard Pique and stressed that while the centre-back will be rested, he is not injured.

"Pique will not play because of the amount of playing time he has already had this season and the recent travelling," he explained. "He has said that he doesn't have any discomfort."

Barcelona will have to make do without Pique, Dani Alves and Alexis Sanchez on Saturday, while Puyol, Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano return to the squad after spells on the sidelines.
